This application is a markdown editor, which is similar to a text editor, only that it’s meant for people who are familiar with the plain text markup format – like ghostwriters, editors, web developers, programmers, and other people who create content for websites.

Ghostwriter is free and open source software that is available for Windows and Linux. Focusing on Windows alone, it must be mentioned that Ghostwriter is available as a portable and as an installer. Said installer will guide you through all the steps you need to take to get Ghostwriter up and running on your Windows PC.

Ghostwriter’s interface features two themes: Classic Light, which is enabled by default, and Classic Dark, which you can easily enable from the Settings menu. If these two themes aren’t enough, you can easily create your own themes. Ghostwriter also features a distraction-free Focus mode, an option to preview your work in HTML, a live word count, and a Hemingway Mode that creates a typewriter experience by disabling your backspace and delete keys.
